Pile On The Miles is an annual event in blogland where we challenge ourselves to walk or run more during the month of November. The goal is to pile on extra miles not pounds during this food filled time of year!
This is the 5th Annual Pile on the Miles Challenge!
The first one was in 2009 and I won 2nd place for the most miles. I took it over in 2010 and would LOVE for you to participate.
What: FREE Online challenge to walk or run more during turkey month.
Who: Everyone is invited to join. Everywhere around the world!
When: November 1 – Nov 30.
Where: Virtual! Sign up on this form and come back to RunEatRepeat.com each week to stay accountable and be entered in a drawing for prizes.
Why: To challenge yourself and encourage others to move more this month. This is about setting a goal and staying accountable with check-ins. It is not a competition for the most miles any longer – it’s about YOUR GOALS.
The Rules:
1. Sign up by completing this form.
There will be a place for your name, email, goal and blog address (optional). You must put in a name and email. If you have a blog please add it so we can create the most epic blogroll ever!
2. Set a goal at the beginning of the challenge to WALK or RUN x amount of miles or minutes in November. These could be miles or a set time on the treadmill OR outside/inside walking or running or cycling… Do your favorite exercise!
3. Leave a comment on RER Nov 1,10, 17 and 24th with your Mileage/Minutes Goal for that week. All comments on those posts will be entered into a giveaway. It does not matter if you hit your goal each week but you must check-in and be accountable to be entered to win.

Question: Are you in or in the way?
I ended up with a total of 95.8 miles for the month of November. 20.8 miles more than my initial goal of 75. Hopefully I will have over 100 for the month of December.

I have to say I’m glad this is over. I bit off more than I could chew. Although I didn’t reach my goal of 100 miles I am happy with what I achieved. I completed 85 miles!! I didn’t take into account how much extra time all those miles would take me to run. I felt like all I was doing was working out and running and planning for the holidays. I was exhausted and I am feeling like I was hit my a truck!
25 Miles this week… Whew… didn’t think I would make it … but I did. Thanks for keeping me honest. Now… to get through Christmas!
GOAL ACHIEVED! Ran my Turkey Trot this morning and I was petrified, but I did it anyway. I kept bumping into a lot of other first timers and despite my knees yelling at me and demanding I walked more than I had intended, it was done.

Ran Las Vegas Half last weekend and ended the week with a NICE PR and I’m OLD… This week will be hard .. but I’d like to see another 25 miles to get me to my 100 mile goal!

I ran 3 miles this week — it was only once but it was my first time outside after recovering 6 weeks from a stress fracture. Boy – I’ve got a long ways to go to regain my stamina, but it felt great to be out!
Hey Monica… I’m not sure how to track… Last year there was a spread sheet… Do we just post our goals here? 21 miles for last week including the Rock and Roll Half Marathon… Looked for you there… Next week… I’d like to do 25 miles!
Hit my 20 mile goal for last week. Speed is slowing creeping up on the dreadmill and kicked it off with great start on this morning’s intervals.
I logged 10 miles last week. My foot is having issues so I won’t be running this week. Actually, I’m seeing the podiatrist tomorrow…we’ll see what he says. I may not be running for the rest of the month 🙁

I managed to get to 30 miles in my first week because I got in two long runs a week apart, but I only was able to run 8 miles last week because I tweaked my glut on Wednesday. 🙁 I am hoping it will get better sooner rather than later.

I’m not sure if this is where I’m sposed to but I’m checking in on the 17th with my goal and miles for this week. Goal was 25 miles and I made 37.86!
My goal for this coming week is 25 miles for the week again.
I made my goal this week. I did 11.5 miles running and an additional mile walk. I also ran 3 miles with my pups! Next week I hope to again hit the 10 mile mark and get out with the pups!
Well, I made my goal for the week! Had a great race yesterday with my mom at the Turkey Trot 5K. This week I want to get faster on my time!! I will run 9 miles and hopefully beat my PR!
I really fell behind this week because of taking Thurs-Sun off for hunting. Guess I should have logged my walking miles as I scouted through the woods & hiked back and forth to my stand. I put in only 6 miles this week per my actual runs. Time to kick it up these next couple weeks. NO EXCUSES!!!
2 great weeks in a row- even a treadmill workout! Lacking a strength workout. 4 days running and 1 strength. Up on the hydration too!!

Having a crappy week and struggling to meet my goal of a simple mile a day, BUT i will make it happen!!!! I deserve ME time!!!
So I didn’t finish reading before entering… ha! My goal was to continue my weight loss and listen to my knee. I’m a big ole dumby. I suppose that can be morphed into sticking to my training plan as long as my knee doesn’t hurt. I am a bit behind too so I missed the check in on Nov 1st… But I have been keeping up my training! I did 30 miles last week running 4 days and walking 2!
My goal is to do 180 miles this month as part of my training for New Orleans Marathon in Feb. I just did the NY Marathon on Sunday so tonight will be my first run since. I’m hoping to hit 14 mi this week (plus the 26.2 on sunday)
Goal for first long Sat run on Nov 2 was 5 miles. I felt great Sat and put in 6. Longest I’ve run for a few years. My goal for the month is 50 miles, so 44 to go! This first full week my goal is 11 miles (3, 3, 5).

My goal for this week is 10 miles. I ran the MCM last week (my 1st) and got horrible hot spots/blisters on both feet. There are just now feeling better. So far I’ve run 1mile and walked another mile. I plan to run 3.5 n Tuesday & Thursday with a longish run on Saturday 🙂

November 1 check in a few days late – goal for the month is 100 miles. This week I’d like to get in at least 27. Today so far I have 4 but will probably run again tonight while my kids are at swim practice. Two a days in November?? YES!

I”m in. Using this to help in my recovery from my half marathon last month. I need to do more rehab. Committed to a big number so I need to stay on target by running/walking/biking!
My goal is 40 miles total, I’m aiming low to not put any pressure on myself or my heels haha my feet have been hurting! I’d also like to focus more on strength training, (even tho that’s not technically “miles”).

Well first 3 days. Upto Nov 3, 2013 I have 16.5 towards my 100 kms. It is a start. Way to go on your Marathon! What an amazing time.

I signed up for 100 miles. Today I put in 3.2 miles (on a hotel treadmill @ 7AM) just to stay on track. Only 97 more!

Just started running again. It is too hot in the summer, but I love running in the cooler times of the year. My goal is 3 miles 5x a week. Did my 3 miles first thing this morning! The fall colors were really gorgeous!

I walked 0.269 miles of my 55 mile goal today. It’s a rest day before a race so this week is a little light in the miles, but look for me next week cuz it’s gonna be epic!!!
I’ve purposely signed up for a race each month to keep me running. Nov 3rd Phoenix Half, Dec 8 Hot Chocolate, and Jan 19 PF Changs Half. Excited to keep the training going an fit hit a PR of 10:30 for each race.

2) I’m definitely in. One of my goals is to actually take time to recover from the half marathon that I’m running tomorrow (Saturday) because after the previous 3 that I’ve run this year (I just started running last year) I haven’t actually taken time to recover.

I just signed up for this challenge today! I am pretty excited. I had to take 6 weeks off from running due to abdominal surgery, but I am hoping that this challenge will help me bounce back and maybe even PR at the Huffing for Stuffing Thanksgiving race coming up!

Well here it goes. First time I have ever signed up for anything like this. 100km or 62.1 miles. Here is to the most kms/miles I have ever run in one month.
Here is my Nov 1 check in. My goal for the month is 30 miles (1 mile a day). Since I am not at peak, my shin splints on my right leg that are bugging me and my bad left leg, I am keeping it low. But it is being active daily.
Here’s my November 1 check in. My goal is small, only 35 miles, but I know we’re each on our own journey and I shouldn’t compare, right! I’m excited about making progress.

I set a goal of 40 miles for the month, 10 miles a week. I started running at the end of September, and did 33 miles in October. I want to slowly keep upping the amount. So 10 miles, here we go!

This is awesome! Motivation for sure!! I did my workouts everyday except one day this week! eeww! I probably will make up for it on Saturday is what I am hoping! I need to run outside! I only train for 5Ks, that is all my body can take! I run them fast and hard though to make sure I get a challenge! Hope I did this right too! Super excited!

I was informed of this challenge by a friend who is a runner. I’m not, but I do like to walk and have been trying to do so more often in order to lose some weight. So… here we go! Let’s see if this works out! I’m going to say 20 miles for the whole month. This week, let’s say I’ll walk 5 miles.

My November goal is 125 miles. This is almost 25 miles more than any previous 2013 month’s total. So it will be a stretch. But I am starting the month out right with a half marathon tomorrow!
Enjoy the race without a Garmin! They will keep track of your time for you with your chip 🙂 But if you can’t do it, I’m sure Garmin or Timex or someone will have a booth at the expo and you can buy a new one!

Ugh, I fail at following directions, I was supposed to enter a numeric goal for miles not a general goal. But adding up all the miles is a lot of math – let’s say I want to run at least 150 miles in November.
I’m in @ 1 mile a day (atleast) in addition to my 10,000+ steps.

I’m excited! My goal is to start building up my runs, I don’t think I’ll ever get into long distance running, but I love it for cardio and want to increase my mileage!
This is such a cool idea! I have totally lapsed in my running since my last race in May and am so excited to have the motivation to start it up again. I picked a low mileage to make sure I can actually get it done without aggravating old injuries…slow and steady, right?

this is awesome! i need this to stay motivated as the holidays set in. i’m just coming off MCM, but picked a high mileage goal, most of which will be walking and cycling. I am doing a turkey trot, so there will be some running miles mixed in as well.
I work in retail and usually slack off big time toward the end of November, so I’m looking forward to challenging myself to keep moving this holiday season! I have a modest goal, but every little bit helps! Woo!

Just signed up for 50. I cut my hand in the beginning of Oct, and walking is my only form of exercise right now. With a 2-year-old who is slowly boycotting my running stroller, I’m mostly getting in walks on the weekends and when I have a sitter once a week. Fun to keep track and keep myself accountable ’til I can add yoga and running back in!

I’m so excited! I’ve been thinking about doing a “run every day” goal for November, but I’m not sure if I’m physically there yet. So instead, I signed up to run at least 12 hours a week with a total goal of 50 miles! I’m really happy about this challenge!

This is perfect timing since I just had a conversation with my husband about needing to get back to running because I was lighter, more energetic and less crabby when I was running regularly!!

Just signed up for Piles on the Miles! Challenging myself to do 100 miles in November. It helps that I’m training for 2 half marathons- 11/16 and 12/14. This is definitely a great challenge to keep the pounds at bay over holiday season!

I’m in! I have to walk though – herniated disc, sciatica and hip bursitis after training for my first and only half marathon. SHUCKS. I’m setting my goal for 60 miles – 2 miles/day in Nov.

I’m super obese, like clinically not just being funny. I started walking a couple of months ago and have dropped quite a bit of weight. I am walking/jogging (mostly walking) my first 5K in November. I set my goal to walk 50miles which is crazy to me as the most I have ever walked in a week is 10 but I want to challenge myself. Thank you so much for this challenge and for your blog.
Good luck on your first 5k! I did my first in September and it was such a great experience I’ve done another one since and I do my third tomorrow!
I started walking when my daughter started school with a goal of 10 miles a week…I’m totally addicted now and get in about 12 a week!

I’m in for 50 miles! I’m training for a 10K on 11/23.
I am in, it might be a small goal, but it’s mine.
I set a goal of 48 miles, so 12 miles/week. Not a lot, but sometimes its hard to fit in running with work and school, so this way I’m held accountable! Let’s do this! 😀

I am in! I still need to plan my next race season, and just finished my last one at MCM, so I’m not training for anything at the moment. This will be good motivation to keep up the running

IN! This is perfect timing, since I have a half marathon in St. Petersburg the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
I just tried to sign up, but it was a little weird…my goal is to run at least one hour (6 miles) a week! I’m trying to stay healthy while working a very busy job as a first year teacher.
I’m in! I gained a solid 5 lbs. last holiday season and losing them has been almost a year long process, so I really want to avoid that again this year. I am dealing with some ITBS after my first marathon a few weeks ago, so I didn’t make my mileage goal terribly high, but still…I’m excited for the challenge!

I picked low mileages because I didn’t realize biking could be a part of it too 🙂 haha. oh well. I tend to have low mileage in November anyways because I run a half at the beginning of the month, then I recover plus Thanksgiving is thrown in. So, busy time. This is my 3rd year doing POTM and I can’t wait!

November is the only full month between my finishing my first full marathon and running my first half-marathon. This will be a fun challenge to track my recovery/build between the two and give me something else to think about during those cold and dark early morning runs!
